ECOLOGY
At a young age I was instantly drawn to the natural world and particularly how things are interconnected. I studied Geography and Ecology at U.C. Berkeley, and now work as a part time field biologist doing surveys for rare and endangered plants and animals. I hold federal permits for California tiger salamanders, red legged frogs and fairy shrimp. I do surveys for plants, mammals, herps, birds and work in many different ecosystems including vernal pools, wetlands, grasslands, and oak woodlands. I have been doing field biology for over 20 years all over California. I teach field biology as well (see below). See Website www.virmccoybiology.com

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION
After walking through countless natural ecosystems and observing many a plant and animal it dawned on me that I could teach adults and kids about ecosystems in a fun way using animation, anthropomorphism, and music to create an animated world that is inspiring, educational, and healing.
Environmental literacy is a critical element to our world and such a program would be invaluable. I approached this with Gorilla in The Greenhouse: an animated web based show about a kids rock band and a green gorilla that tackle environmental issues.
My love for nature also has also blossomed into environmental education and applications to living. I have a permaculture teaching certification taught by Bill Mollison. I have taught at many schools in Marin County as well as outdoor summer camps for children including U.C. Berkeley's summer science and nature education camps. Working with children is a joy and comes very naturally to me. I have taught natural science through the arts as well. I designed a curriculum based on teaching about ecosystems first through science then through the arts.
To combine my love for surfing, ecology and music I created a summer camp called the "Rock and Roll Surf Camp" combining all these passions.
